Comet Backup
Opt-in cloud backup for your managed customers, powered by your own Comet server.
How It Works
- Customer opt-in - when you create an RMM installer (or a customer downloads one from the portal), cloud backup is offered as a choice. Only newly enrolled devices are affected; existing devices are never modified.
- Auto-provisioning - each opted-in customer gets their own backup account on your Comet server, created automatically, and the backup client installs alongside the RMM agent.
- Monitoring - backup status (last backup, OK/failed) shows on each asset page and refreshes every 30 minutes. Failures raise alerts and can open tickets automatically.
- Cleanup - deleting an asset or customer schedules backup cleanup after a grace period (default 90 days, configurable), visible and cancellable until it runs.
Setup
- Run your own Comet Server (self-hosted or Comet-hosted).
- In App Center > Comet Backup, enter the server URL and admin credentials, and choose whether failures should open tickets.
- Create your next installer - the backup opt-in prompt appears automatically.
Backup failure alerts can also trigger Automated Remediation rules.
